What would human beings be without learning? Or even a mere being? Imagine a day that you learned nothing, absolutely nothing. Do you think it’s possible? Just looking through the window tomorrow morning. Are you really able to say you are learning nothing? Is the book next to your table in the same place? Where is the sun? Are you checking your phone? What is that noise outside? Just opening your eyes or moving your hands, or smelling a toast. Learning is inevitable. It impacts everybody’s lives. From the moment you arrive into the world you start to create your idea of the world. It is through this amazing process that we create the world we live in, we acknowledge it and we realize we share it.
It makes us who we are, it determines what path we are taking and how we are taking it. Most people may mistake learning with studying. However, some people may focus on studying extremely different things to you, but at the most basic level of learning, we are all the same. Studying is a branch of the learning process, and it must not be left aside, as it is also clearly important, but learning is different, it is an inherent quality that we all share. Not only humans, but animals and plants as well. Learning is like breathing or eating. Actually, it also impacts these activities, we eat different things or breath in a different way depending on how we understand the world around us, which is determined by the process of learning. It is a gift that all beings share.
One of the best things about learning is how pleasant it is. As when you look at the red apron the waitress is wearing and it reminds you of the red hat your grandma used to wear when you went to church on Sundays. Or when you recall the smell of the best lasagne you tried when you were in Venice. Just remember the size you thought your mum to be when you were three. Haven’t you learned her constantly through life? Isn’t she always changing? What is that thing your grandad always said when you were a kid?
We learn to live and how others live. Learning is key for everything that makes us human, it creates our society, or relations, our approach to life. That is why learning is the best thing you can invest in. It is what make us grow not as people but as society, as a world, as a community. Because learning is incredibly undermined, and one must never stop doing so.
Learning help us adapt, it makes us tolerant and it creates a space in which I feel comfortable. A learning space that I can access and which is constantly changing. And what is best, we can all access our own sphere. And in the end, we may be able to acknowledge the huge sphere that surround us all.
